The Band Fun. and "Carry on"

funDon't you simply love the way certain songs activate those sensational memory triggers? And especially those songs you play that make sense of an emotion or event in your life that you couldn't explain in your own words? How about when a song comes along that really makes you see the hard times more clearly and through a wonderfully bright silver lining?

The band Fun. has already attracted us with their catchy beats and relatable lyrics in hits "We are young" and "Some nights" from the album Some Nights, reeling in instant success and popularity.
Listening to Fun's latest single," Carry on," I found had an immediate spirit-lifting effect.

With its entrancing words painting us a colorful picture of peace, and hope and sharing a tale of empathy, it steers us down the bumpy road of life; And as we "carry" through the story, we make all the optimistic stops the anthem guides us to leaving a trail of hope in its wake.

The music video lived up to the songs' powerful message with its artistic scene sequence. Starting off showing the talented trio, perhaps moments before a show, with emotions and thoughts clearly expressed on their faces, it later blends into clips of them passionately preforming for a crowd onstage, wining and dining together, serenading us at Grand Central Station and strolling the streets of NYC (hometown to the popular group).

The guys of Fun., (even suggesting lightheartedness within the band name itself), show us the value of friendship in this video.

The song has recently received its peak position on the US charts at number 4 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. It was written by band members Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost, Jack Antonoff as well as the albums producer Jeff Bhasker.

With lyrical verses like "if you're lost and alone, and you're sinking like a stone.... carry on," it makes us feel like not only has someone experienced the struggles we've experienced, but that we should pick ourselves up and move forward as encouraged within its follow-up line "May your past be the sound, of your feet upon the ground.... carry on."

"Cause we are, we are shining stars, we are invincible, we are who we are" sends a message that we should feel impenetrable and beautiful.

"On our darkest day, when we are miles away, so we'll come, we will find our way home" gives us hope and light as we trudge through the trenches of sorrow or failure we may stumble upon in life.

I continue to be impressed by the band Fun. with their dance-inspiring sound and poetic lyrics. We all could use songs of optimism, faith and perseverance. That exact combination can be found in the song "Carry on". I for one appreciate a band with that kind of spirit and enthusiasm. With more songs like "Carry on," we can all trust that this band will keep our spirits up and pull us out of our dark days. I very much look forward to being graced with more melodic wisdom from them in the future.
